Are You Ready to Unearth Your Passion, Purpose, & Potential?

How do you discover your passion, purpose, and potential? You start by answering the "What" question.

What would you do for free if given the opportunity?
What drives you?

The answers to these questions reveal your passion.  Aligning your passion with what you do on a day-to-day basis will reduce your stress level and increase your sense of fulfillment.  A lack of passion will cause you to feel overwhelmed and under appreciated.

Next, answer the "Why" question.

Why do you do what you do?
Why are you so driven?

The purpose behind what we do frames the context within which we live and work.  Finding a job, for instance, that is aligned to your purpose will make working overtime a pleasure, going the extra mile will be a joy. By aligning key choices in life with your purpose, you will walk in increased clarity and have a better sense of direction.

Lastly, answer the "How" question.

How will you accomplish your goals?
How will you move forward into your destiny?

Once unleashed, your potential will provide you with all of the resources needed in order to achieve your goals.

Passion provides a vision, purpose provides direction, and potential provides a methodology.  You will need to pursue passion, purpose, and potential diligently. It's time to fully engage in the moment in order to reconnect to your faith and renew your spirit. Let go of your past failures and embrace your future successes.

Passion, purpose and potential are the keys to your success!

I love it when a plan comes together!

This was a line made famous back in the 80's on a show called "The A-Team".  The statement was spoken at the end of every episode after a variety of highly-crafted, preplanned scenarios culminated in the accomplishment of the team's predetermined goal.  I can still remember the sense of joy and fulfillment that the characters felt at the end of each episode. They did it! They completed the task! They were successful!  They were "The A-Team"!

If only life was that simple.

Just like the members of the A-team, I believe that God enjoys seeing his plan fulfilled in our lives.  Psalms 16:11 says, "You will make known to me the path of life; in your presence is fullness of joy: in your right hand there are pleasures forever. (NAS)

There have been several times in my life when I have followed my own plans and ended up at a destination of my own choosing; yet, I found no joy or sense of fulfillment in the accomplishment of my goals.  After this happened a few times, it finally dawned on me that perhaps God's plans WERE better than MY plans!

Once I got a handle on this concept, I began to understand that MY plans, no matter how great, were inherently flawed if they did not fully acknowledge Christ's authority as Lord in my life.

By following His plan for my life, I have gained a greater sense of direction, fulfillment, and joy.   Imagine that, I give up control but feel a greater sense of direction.

Wow!  I love it when a plan comes together!

Living in the Moment

One thing about living in the moment is that you begin to appreciate the little things in life.  You notice, for instance, when your dog stops what she is doing and just begins to look at you with her head tilted slightly to the side as if to say, "What are you doing?" Appreciating such moments relaxes the body and soothes the mind.

Noticing small details throughout the course of one's day helps to expand the moment into something larger, something that can be appreciated at a much deeper level.  It also provides lots of practice so that when life's larger moments emerge you are fully engaged in them.

We should not be an inactive bystander in our own lives but an active participant. Begin living in the moment today!

Self Reflection

As the summer gradually fades and fall descends, I am reminded of the wonderful opportunities that this season can bring.  It can be a time to release past thought patterns and embrace a new outlook.  I like to do a self check at this time of year to clarify God's purpose for my life.  I ask my self questions about the fundamental reasons that I do what I do. Fall represents an opportunity to make a fresh start, to begin again.

The first step of the new journey is to understand where you are and to know the direction in which God is taking you.  Self reflection, is a key to finding God's direction for our lives.

Back-To-School

The summer is over. Fall is here.  It's time to refocus on academic pursuits.  It's time to regain control of fleeting thoughts and to refocus their energies upon one concept, one purpose at a time.  Gone are the days of just sitting on the beach, watching the waves crash against the shore. Gone are the days of hopping on my bike in the early morning and pedaling till I just can't pedal anymore.  Gone are the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer.

Savor the last few moments and embrace the beginning of our new adventure.  Fall 2009.

Social Media and Change

I find myself caught up in a moment in time when change overtakes me. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogging.... Social media has begun to impact what we do and how we do it. Where will this all lead? How will Christians use these tools to impact the world for Christ? As Christians, we need to examine the lay of the land and develop strategies to use these tools. Many thanks to my family, friends, coworkers, and colleagues who have mastered the new media and who serve as excellent examples for me.

I am still navigating the social media phenomenon. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
